Escuelaboratorio Marked the Launch of a New Living Lab in Rural Spain

Fundación Entretantos has taken a major step forward in its Living Lab initiative with the launch of the Escuelaboratorio, an ambitious and hands-on space designed to explore how collaborative networks can drive meaningful change in rural areas.

Held from 16 to 18 May at the National Centre for Environmental Education in Valsaín, Segovia, the Escuelaboratorio brought together a diverse group of practitioners, researchers, and facilitators working in rural development, eco-social sustainability, and network building. This event marked the first significant milestone in the development of Entretantos’ Living Lab, setting the tone for future activities grounded in experimentation, co-creation, and grassroots engagement.

Over three days, participants engaged in participatory dynamics, collaborative workshops, and reflective discussions. Together, they examined the core elements that make rural networks effective, sustainable, and impactful. These sessions focused not only on sharing practical experiences but also on identifying indicators that can help assess the real influence such networks have on local communities and environments.

With academic support from UNED, the Escuelaboratorio laid the groundwork for a structured approach to evaluating network-based initiatives in rural contexts. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen the tools and methods available to rural actors seeking to build resilient and interconnected communities.

The launch of the Escuelaboratorio was more than a single event. It marked the beginning of a shared journey to rethink how rural innovation can emerge from the power of community ties and cooperative action.
